Description

Agapanthus (Agapanthus praecox) impresses with truly decorative flowers: at the end of an 1m high stalk it produces a many-flowered inflorescence consisting of many blue or white funnel-shaped flowers. The single flowers don’t open all at the same time so that the bloom of a stem can last for two or three weeks. Taking together the bloom of all inflorescence you get a spectacular effect for several months during summer. Depending on the way of wintering the plant first flowers will appear in May/ June (bright & frost-free) or in July/ August (dark & unheated). This South African plant with its grasslike growth and fir-green, strap-like leaves has been a classic among pot plants already for centuries, likewise Laurel, Citrus and PalmTrees. Despite their lush flowers Agapanthus should not be kept in a too large pot: the less space the succulent roots is given the more flowers the plant will produce. Given too much fertizer, the plant will grow strongly but bloom poorly. Agapanthus should be watered amply in larger intervals: permanent dampness will cause the roots to rot.
