Agapanthus praecox 'Albus' - African Lily
The white flowering form of the popular decorative African Lily (Agapanthus praecox) enriches the summer with magnificient umbels of flowers like snowballs in the middle of summer.
Agapanthus (Agapanthus praecox) impresses with umbels of truly decorative flowers on up to 1m tall stems. Each flowerhead is made up of many blue or white funnel-shaped flowers. Since the pretty flowers do not all open at the same time, the bloom of a single stem lasts a good two to three weeks - adding up to a great flowering spectacle throughout the summer. Depending on overwintering, flowering starts either in May/June (bright & frost-free) or in July/August (dark & unheated). Together with laurel, citrus and palms, the South African plants with their grasslike growth and fir-green, strap-like foliage have been among the classic potted plants of feudal parks such as Herrenhausen or Versailles for centuries. Two specimens to the right and left of your own house or garden entrance immediately show that this is the home of plant connoisseurs who like to surround themselves with beauty. Care tip: Despite their lush flowers, less is always more when it comes to African Lilies. Agapanthus prefers restricted root space, i.e. the tighter their thick fleshy roots are in the pot, the more flowers they produce. Plants that are too well fertilized may produce abundant foliage, but often bloom poorly. Agapanthus should be watered abundantly at larger intervals: permanent dampness will cause the roots to rot.
Quality: showy flowerheads in blue or white; long flowering time; easy to care for and long-lived
Use: in pots from April to September outside on balcony, terrace and in the garden - during winter indoors; all year round in a bright greenhouse or conservatory
