Actinidia deliciosa 'Jenny' - Chinese Gooseberry, Kiwi Fruit
You don't need a second plant to harvest the smaller kiwi variety 'Jenny' (Actinidia 'Jenny') – one alone is enough to harvest the furry little fruits like in the land of milk and honey, because Jenny is self-fertile.
Modern kiwi variety 'Jenny' (A. chinensis) bears male and female and hermaphrodite flowers on one plant. This distinguishes it from other kiwi fruit (Actinidia deliciosa), which function only in pairs. Kiwi 'Jenny', on the other hand, requires only one specimen to guarantee an annual harvest in the garden. It is ideal for training onto a pergola or up against a sunny wall. The fruits with their hairy, brown skin are egg-sized and very aromatic. The vigorous climbers are very hardy (-20 °C) and have the same characteristics as other kiwis (for more information see there).
Quality: fruits packed with vitamins from own harvest; attractive, cream-colored flowers; fast-growing climber giving shade and privacy; hardy garden plant; easy to winter as container plant (unheated & dark)
Use: planted in the garden (no winter protection necessary); in large pots from April to October/November outside on balcony, terrace and in the garden - during winter in an unheated winter quarter; all year round in an unheated greenhouse or conservatory
