BESTSELLER (rank 16) - The fragrance of Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides) is more nuanced than that of True Jasmine, which tends to come across as too intense to delicate noses. The bloom of Star Jasmine lasts for months, they are evergreen, grow quite slowly for a climbing plant and are frost-resistant enough to be planted out in the garden.

Description

It climbs like a jasmine, its flowers look and smell like jasmine, but still it is not a jasmine! We are talking about the Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides), which is native to Asia. Unlike the True Jasmine (Jasminum officinale), this climber keeps its glossy leaves all year round. Young leaves in spring are slightly reddish. Also, the leaves change its color to shiny red in fall, depending on the way the plant was overwintered. The fragrance of the snow-white summer flowers is very intense, yet not at all obtrusive. The slow growing, robust climbers therefore deserve a regular place on summer balconies and terraces, or in the winter garden, or in regions with a mild climate (e.g. vineyards) a permanent spot in the garden. If you shade the shoots in winter and cover the root zone with foliage, you can easily plant Star Jasmine in the garden.
