Averrhoa carambola - Star Fruit, Carambola
With our grafted plants, the Star Fruit or Carambola (Averrhoa carambola) will grant you quick harvest success of exotic fruit stars at your home.
Carambola (Averrhoa carambola) is already a well known tropical fruit in our country - and is getting increasingly popular. If you cut the oblong-oval fruits with their yellow-orange skin in cross section, they resemble a star and are just as popular for decorating desserts and fruit salads as they are for snacking. The juicy flesh tastes sweet with a pleasant sour undertone; the skin is crunchy and can be eaten along with the fruit. The moderately growing Carambola plants usually have a short stem, as they are grafted plants (as are the plants we sell to you). They are well branched plants and grow into slender shrubs or small trees. The light green pinnate leaves, downy underneath, fold up at night, in case of a drought, and when exposed to excessive sunlight. Depending on the temperature in the winter quarter, Carambola plants are evergreen or partly drop leaves. The flowers have a lovely fragrance and appear in spurts throughout the year in the tropics, in this country mainly in the warm and sunny summer months.
