Averrhoa carambola - Starfruit
With our grafted plants, the Star Fruit or Carambola (Averrhoa carambola) will grant you quick harvest success of exotic fruit stars at your home.
In Germany Carambola (Averrhoa carambola) is already a well known tropical fruit - and it still is getting even more popular. If you cut open those oblong- oval fruits with their yellow- orange peel, the slices have the shape of a star. The juicy pulp of fruit tastes sweet with a slight and pleasant dash of acid. The crisp peel is edible. The slowly growing Carambola- plants usually have a short stem because they are grafted plants (as are the plants we sell to you). They are well branched plants and grow up to a shrub or small tree. The light green pinnate leaves with fluff at the bottom side fold together at night, in case of a drought or too intense sun. In winter, Carambola plants are evergreen or partly drop leaves, depending on the temperature in the winter quarter. The flowers smell sweet and in this country usually appear during the warm and bright summer months. In tropical climate, Carambola plants bloom in intervals throughout the year.
