Coffea arabica - Coffee
Almost anybody knows how coffee tastes but not everybody knows how it grows. With an evergreen coffee plant at home, you will find out for yourself that the coffee beans are inside the red berries and the white flowers smell wonderful!
Coffee plants (Coffea arabica) are compact shrubs with glossy, dark green, thin leaves, which prefer a shady, permanently warm spot in bright living rooms or conservatories and are easy-care permanent guests in the pot. As they grow older, they produce more and more of their 3-4 cm large, white, fragrant flowers, followed by small, bright red fruits, each containing two of the much-loved coffee beans. Dried and roasted, they are the basic ingredient for coffee enjoyment all over the world. Care tip: Coffee shrubs appreciate always slightly moist soil and a warm spot (above 15 °C), but no direct sun: this would burn the leaves.
Quality: worldwide popular agricultural plant; fragrant flowers; red-skinned fruits with coffee beans; compact growth; evergreen
Use: in pots from May outside - with some reservations - in a sheltered position on balcony & terrace; all year round in a heated winter garden or bright room
