Clerodendrum ugandense - Blue Glory Bower, Blue Butterfly Bush
Like hundreds of small butterflies, the sky-blue flowers flutter around the Blue Glory Bower (Clerodendrum ugandense). As vigorous, popular shrubs on the patio and in the conservatory, they make themselves indispensable with fresh green leafy crowns and bloom continuously from spring to late summer. Very tolerant to pruning.
If you like blue flowers, you will love the Blue Butterfly Bush (Clerodendrum ugandense). Its name says it all: like a flock of blue butterflies, the flowers dance around the light green leafy crown of this deciduous shrub from spring to fall. The long, curved stamens rise like butterfly antennae above the five petals, four of which are light blue and one of which is dark blue at its tip. You can keep the shape of this magnificent shrub compact by regularly pruning young shoots. This will also increase the production of new buds and shoots during the summer. This African plant belongs to the family of verbenaceae and requires plenty of water and fertilizer. It is a low-maintenance plant with almost permanent blossom. Even beginners in growing potted plants will achieve very good results with Clerodenrum ugandense.
Quality: blue butterfly-like flowers in abundant numbers; permanent blossom
Use: in pots from May outside on balcony & terrace - during winter in a frost-free winter garden or winter quarter; all year round in a heated conservatory
