Clerodendrum ugandense - Blue Wings, Blue Glory Bower
Like hundreds of small butterflies, the sky-blue flowers flutter around the blue glory bower (Clerodendrum ugandense). As vigorous, popular shrubs on the patio and in the conservatory, the blue butterfly bushes make themselves indispensable with fresh green leafy crowns that bloom continuously from spring to late summer. Very tolerant to pruning.
If you like blue flowers then you will be delighted with the Butterfly Flower (Clerodendrum ugandense). As the name indicates: like a cloud of blue butterflies its flowers dance upon this deciduous shrub with light green leaves continuously from spring to autumn. The long, bend filaments stand out of the five petals (of which four are light blue and one is dark blue at its tip) like the antenna of a butterfly. You can keep the shape of Butterfly Flower compact if you prune young shoots regularly. This will also increase the production of new buds and shoots during the summer. This African plant belongs to the family of verbenaceae and requires plenty of water and fertilizer. Butterfly Flowers are easy to care plants with almost permanent blossom. Even beginners with pot plants will achieve permanently good results with Clerodenrum ugandense. Quality: numerous blue butterfly-shaped flowers; permanent blossom
Use: in pots from May outside on balcony & terrace - during winter in a frost-free wintergarden or winter quarter; all-year in a heated greenhouse
