Description

The white flowers of the Mexican Orange Blossom (Choisya ternata) smell like the flowers of a lemon tree and resemble them in appearance and structure - both plants belong to the same plant family. In spring, the sweetly scented flowers rise in clusters above the leaves, almost covering them completely. The leaves of this compact, small growing evergreen shrub are attractively divided into several leaflets. Young leaves are bright green, older leaves glossy dark green and aromatic when rubbed. Rarely more than 1 m high when grown in containers, but equally wide. When planted out in the garden it can reach up to 1.5 m. Mexican Orange Blossoms prefer acidic substrate and fertilizer (e.g. rhododendron fertilizer) and a consistent water supply without water logging. Due to its fragrance, the Mexican Orange Blossom is a good companion for citrus plants as pot plant or in a conservatory. The variety ‘Aztek Pearl’ has narrow leaves, but produces the same abundance of flowers and fragrance as its parent.
