The Common Myrtle is the Mediterranean classic par excellence. It is not possible to imagine an assortment of pot plants or plants for winter gardens without it. According to tradition, already the women in ancient Egypt and divine beauties such as Venus or Aphrodite adorned themselves with flowering myrtle branches. Today, it is still a wedding tradition to use myrtle as a boutonniere on the groom's jacket or for bridal wreaths. The evergreen shrubs with the glossy leaves, intensely fragrant when crushed, also make a beautiful gift. Common Myrtle is a small shrub with a compact growing habit and it is tolerant to pruning. Planted in pots or in a winter garden, it usually shows its white, 1.5-2 cm large flowers in summer (July-August). The fragrant flowers look like snowflakes and are followed by dark red to almost black berries in the fall.
