Theobroma cacao - Chocolate Tree, Cacao
Do your children know where their cocoa comes from and what is the source of chocolate? They have probably never seen the related plants. With a little cacao tree from our assortment, this could change, because with its red young leaves and unusual flowers and fruits, Cacao (Theobroma cacao) attracts the interest of young and old. Unusual: the flowers grow directly from the branches (cauliflory).
Every child loves cocoa as a drink or chocolate. Having a Cacao Tree at home is a great experience for young and old, especially since the young leaves of this tropical plants are attractively red-orange colored. The branches of Cacao Trees are arranged in tiers. Cacao Trees grow slowly and rarely reach more than 2-3 m in our country. The white flowers are also special, because they grow directly from the trunk (cauliflory), as do the cocoa fruits (pods), which can be up to 30 cm long and have a bright reddish-brown skin when fully ripe. They contain the seeds, which are called cocoa beans. They are fermented, dried, roasted, ground and sold as cocoa powder. The leaves are soft and red when young and turn to light to dark green when mature. Cacao trees are true tropical plants, which nowadays are cultivated mainly in South America. Humidity should be constantly above 70%, the temperature should not fall below +15 °C for a longer time, otherwise the leaves will get brown tips or edges.
