Description

The narrow columns of the Mediterranean Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), also known as Italian Cypress, rise into the sky like rockets. In Tuscany, they line driveways, accentuate hilltops and shape the landscape. In our country you may plant them into the garden, because from their home country these evergreen trees are used to a good portion of cold and snow. For a successful growth they require well drained, loose, permeable soil, protection against the sun in winter and at the same time sufficient soil moisture. Planted in pots the Mediterranean Cypress can also be used as an architectural element around the house. As a pot plant they create an Italian flair on sunny terraces, look great along the path to the house or stylishly round off the garden pond. When planted in a pot, they are the first to be brought outdoors in spring and the last to have to go into winter quarters in fall, thus giving you a long season ‘a-la-Italia’. In a greenhouse or conservatory, Mediterranean Cypresses will grow into slender, columnar trees and make good partners for large olive trees, fig trees and other Mediterranean classics that all require a cool temperature in the winter quarter.

punkt_gruen.gif Quality: typical Mediterranean plant with narrow, columnar growth; spicy fragrant resin in summer; evergreen; low maintenance & undemanding
punkt_gruen.gif Use: in pots from March/April to October/November outdoors on balcony, terrace and in the garden; with overwintering indoors; all year round in an unheated conservatory; planted in the garden (with sun protection)
