BESTSELLER (rank 26) - Basically, you can spoon out the pulp from any passion fruit. Only it is not worth it with many, small-fruited ornamental varieties. The Giant Granadilla (Passiflora alata), however, bears fruits that are over 8 cm long and shows gorgeous flowers of red, white and purple color.
The flowers of the Giant Granadilla (Passiflora alata) are among the most striking of the entire species - not only because of their coloration: the petals are bright red on top, purple-white underside. The corona banded with purple and white is an eye-catcher and with up to 12 cm the bowl-shaped flowers are of a considerable size. They are followed by up to 10 cm long, oval fruits whose seeds inside are coated with a juicy aromatic fruit pulp, which you know as passion fruit juice. Other distinct features of the Giant Granadilla are the square stalks and upright growth, which makes them more suitable for clinging to high, coarse-meshed trellises.
