A South American member of its family, the Mexican Coral Tree (Erythrina coralloides) impresses in summer with bright red inflorescences that are visible from afar. The leaves are trifoliate, thorny and of a spring-fresh green. Like all Coral Shrubs and Coral Trees, this large shrub or small tree prefers bright places, full sun (but not too hot) where a steady breeze provides light cooling. Although Coral Shrubs originate from regions with very dry seasons, they should be supplied with water and fertilizer very constantly and generously during the growing season. In our country, the dry season is replaced by the winter months, when the water requirements of deciduous plants decrease significantly, but not to zero: When grown in pots, the roots require a slight basic moisture level even during the cool season! If you read other information about this on the internet, the information is wrong and will endanger the survival of the beautiful, exotic plants.
