Camellia sinensis - Tea Plant, Tea Shrub
Black and green tea is produced from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which blooms beautifully. A study object for the whole family about what is on the breakfast table every day.
Did you know that the black and green tea are the dried and fermented leaves of a Camellia (Camellia sinensis)? A closer look reveals the close relationship between Tea Plant and Camellia: their leaves are equally deep dark green, glossy and with entire margins. White to cream-colored petals group around a dense cluster of golden-yellow stamens at the flower’s center. Flowering usually occurs in late winter but depending on the location may shift to the fall or summer months. Tea Plants naturally grow very compact and are well branched, so that regular pruning is not necessary. Although they are grown commercially primarily in tropical countries - however, usually at high altitudes and mountainous regions - they prefer cool, humid conditions and can be planted in a shady place in the garden. As pot plant, it needs a slightly acidic substrate (e.g. rhododendron substrate) and appropriate fertilizers. Tea Plants should be watered with water that is low in lime.
'Yukina' is a special cultivar and cold-resistant down to -10 ° C. It is just as suitable as the 'normal' tea plants for the preparation of your own tea. So there is nothing to prevent you from making your own tea from your own plants from the balcony or terrace.
Quality: worldwide well-known useful plant for tea production; attractive flowers; evergreen; compact habit
Use: all year round in a heated greenhouse or bright room; in pots from May outdoors on balcony, terrace
