Here we are talking about a real princess: The brightness of its panicles of violet-blue, satiny flowers is unsurpassed. Without any horticultural tricks, Princess Flower shrubs (Tibouchina urvilleana) with their velvety leaves start to bloom from late summer.
The flowers of the Princess Flower (Tibouchina urvilleana) can reach up to 6cm across. Depending on the incident angle of light they are bright purple to rich violet. And they flower at a time when most other container or conservatory plants have already faded. Its natural bloom is in midsummer and fall – conservatory owners can also enjoy the flowers in winter. If you are offered Princess Flowers that are already in full bloom in spring, the gardener has helped with horticultural tricks that you cannot replicate at home. In the future, also these plants will not bloom before August. However, waiting will not test your patience. Thanks to the silvery hairy leaves with a reddish shimmer at the edges, the evergreen shrubs are a real eye-catcher also in spring and summer. The leaves feel wonderfully soft to the touch. In order to limit the usually very strong growth of shoots it is recommended to prune the shoot tips 2 to 3 times a year: in March, early May and late June. Note: Contrary to common practice, our plants are not treated with growth-regulators or flowering hormones and therefore grow according to their nature.
