Citrus limon 'Rosso' - Red Lemon
BESTSELLER (rank 10) - The lemon cross 'Rosso' (Citrus limon), which may also be known as mulled wine lemon, is a real eye-catcher thanks to the red coloration of its thick skin.
So far little noticed in Europe, the Red Lemon 'Rosso' is now becoming more and more popular - which is not surprising because its red cheeked fruits are very decorative. For the breeding of this variety not only lemons were chosen but probably also citrons (Citrus medica), so that its fruits are very large. ‘Rosso’ grows somewhat more compact than other lemons such as ‘Lunario’ or ‘Feminello’. Its crown is well branched and its foliage dense. In spring (but also in summer to late summer) 2-2.5 cm long petals with a sweet, intense fragrance develop from purple colored flower buds. These are followed by roundish to oblong fruits with dark yellow to orange peel tinged with red hues. Sometimes, also the fruit pulp is reddish..
