Description

The original Lemon from which the Citrus limon ‘Lunario’ has been selected by cultivation originates from South China and Burma/Myanmar. 'Lunario' grows vigorously and quickly, its branches are upright to broad with only few thorns. Regular pruning helps limiting the growth and keeping the crown round and compact. The sweet and intensely fragrant flowers (5-6 cm) develop from purple-colored buds. The petals are bent and thick, the flowers may appear during the whole growing season. These are followed by oblong-oval, sometimes curved or strongly asymmetrical fruits that can grow to the length of a hand. Typical for the fruit is its elongated end, though this characteristic feature might not always be developed clearly. The peel does not turn dark yellow even when fully ripe, but remains rather light yellow and moderately thick. This leaves more space for the pale yellow, sour pulp inside that we probably all knew, as 'Lunario' is the most common lemon on fruit shelves. Citrus limon 'Four seasons' lives up to its name by flowering and fruiting virtually all year round.
